Rhinosporidiosis
Cause
- Rhinosporidiosis is a granulomatous infection of the mucous membrane caused by Rhinosporidium seeberi
- In India, most cases are seen in southern states
- Disease acquired through contaminated water
Clinical Features
- Presents as leafy polypoidal mass, pink to purple in color in the nose
- The mass is very vascular and bleeds easily on touch
- Surface is studded with white dots
- Other presenting features – epistaxis, nasal discharge, nasal stuffiness
Treatment
- Complete excision with diathermy knife
